Oh how I love the Christmas season! Our home turns into a winter wonderland on November 1st and I’m not ashamed of that one bit. This year we had new stockings, which I LOVE, however our previous ones had our names on them and I just love the idea of our names on stockings. After seeing some pictures online of name tags for stockings, I decided I wanted to make my own. This project is so simple and such an easy way to upgrade your stocking.
Supplies:
–Wooden Tags
–Stain or Paint
-Twine, Ribbon, String, etc.
-Vinyl, Paint Marker or whatever you choose for the name (I’ll talk more about this later)
EDIT: I have noticed that the wooden tags that I bought frequently go in and out of stock. Here is another option.
First, you have to decide what size you want your tags to be. I wanted them a decent size but also not overpowering of the stocking. The ones I ended up getting are 5 inches by 3 inches. I was really impressed with the ones I ordered. They shipped so quickly and the quality was great. I highly recommend these tags!
Next, you need to decide what color you want your tags to be. I chose to stain ours, however you could paint them if you wanted to. I think black tags would look really nice or if you wanted something brighter you could do red and green! The stain I used is called Briarsmoke.
Once your wooden tags have arrived and you’ve decided what color you want them, begin to stain or paint them. Make sure to do both sides!
Now for adding the names, there are a few ways do to this. I have a Silhouette Cameo that I used to cut out our names, however you don’t need that for this project. You could just use a paint marker or even a sharpie of your color choice to write a name. Confession time: I have the hand writing of a 10 year old boy so this definitely wasn’t an option for me, ha! However I know plenty of people have nice handwriting and they could easily write their own tags. If you don’t want to do that, there are a ton of Etsy shops that you can buy vinyl words and you’d just order the names you want.
The last step is attaching the tags to your stocking. I used twine that I’ve used for wrapping gifts (I got it from Marshall’s last year, so unfortunately I can’t link it) but you could use any type of string that goes with your decor. Simply hold the tag where you want it to go and measure out how much twine you’ll need. It’s a good idea to add a little bit of extra length and then you can always trim it down once you attach it.
And that’s it! So easy, right?! I love simple DIY’s like this. I already had the stain, twine, and vinyl so all I had to do was buy the tags. This ended up being such an inexpensive project. If you decide to make your own stocking tags I’d love for you to share with me! Make sure to tag me in your photos {@lifewithlismarie}.
