Oh my sweet little babe. Her being that little somehow feels like forever ago but also like last week all at the same time. Willa is going to be half a year in a few weeks and I just can’t believe it!
We’ve been asked quite a bit how we chose Willa’s name, so I figured I’d share on here. Names are so important to me and I wanted to be really intentional about what we chose. We had a hard time deciding between a few different options. We ended up narrowing it down to two different names and wanted to wait until we met her to decide.
Willa decided to make an insanely dramatic entrance into the world, which required me to be put under for a c-section and not getting to meet her until she was two hours old. I was recovering in a different area of the hospital and the nurses kept asking me what her name was and I kept saying “I have no clue, I don’t even know what she looks like!” One of my nurses was from Ireland and he suggested many Irish names for us to use.
I finally got up to the room where Ben and our new baby were waiting for me and it was so wonderful finally getting to meet her! I told Ben that I wanted to sleep on it and decide on her name the next morning.
My nurse asked us what our options were and she began calling the baby by both names, switching back and forth between the two. This was so helpful to me! Every time she said the other name we were thinking about, I remember feeling like it just didn’t feel quite right. The next morning I told Ben that I kept feeling like her name was Willa. It just felt so right for her. He agreed and she became our sweet Willa girl.
Willa’s name is special to us for a few different reasons. She is named after my grandpa who was named William. I so wish these two could have met. I know he would have adored her. Willa means strong willed warrior. When we told our midwife what her name means, she immediately chuckled and said “that is SO fitting for this girl!” She saw firsthand throughout my pregnancy and delivery just how strong willed and determined our little lady is. Marie is her middle name, which is mine and my mom’s middle name. Marie means beloved which I think is so sweet.
Willa Marie is our strong willed warrior and is oh so beloved.
